I received an e-mail from a highschool chum of mine the other day letting me know she had launched her new website showcasing the jewelry she’s been making. Mind you, she does this in addition to her regular job. Trust me, this chick has the energy level to qualify as a real “do-it-all.” I’m not in the least bit jealous (says Melissa, downing every last ounce of cold coffee while rubbing away the eye boogers).
I had seen snippets of Tina’s jewelry before and was impressed right from the beginning. And I’m a harsh critic, really. I don’t normally like jewelry! It ranks right up there with shoes, in my opinion. I know, I know . . . I’m weird. But remember - I like weeds and dirt and am partial to garden clogs and straw hats.
I often remind my husband he got off easy when he tied the knot with me.
But every so often I come across a piece of jewelry that I just love, and such was the case when I perused the virtual pages of Bobeada . First of all, what a cool and catchy name! Bobeada! (I’m doing my best jazz hands) Can’t you just see me in this as I’m scrubbing the toilet and changing poo-poo diapers? Hey - a girl has a right to dream!
There’s nothing stopping you, my good readers, from clicking over there right this instant and supporting my lovely friend. You know you at least want to take a peek - just have your PayPal account at the ready. Or your “first-born child.” Tina says everything is negotiable.
*edited to add ~ that lovely necklace has since been added to my collection; it was an early anniversary gift from my husband!*
Perhaps it’s because my own dream of becoming a children’s book writer has yet to materialize that I jumped at the chance to support someone else in his dream. Or maybe it’s because I could so strongly identify with what he had written. In any event, I hardly hesitated in purchasing Tomas Christensen’s book, What’s that noise? in which he provides some rather quirky explanations for, well, what that noise could be.
As a mother of children who insist that the multitude of strange noises they hear emanating from our basement is testament to the fact that there must be any number of monsters calling it home, I desperately wanted to shed some light-hearted humor on a rather delicate subject. Let’s face it, when our wee ones are freaked out by those unexplainable bump-in-the-night noises, it’s nice to have a silly explanation on hand.
My children LOVED the story and quickly and repeatedly devoured it. It’s been a staple on our living room coffee table for the past week and is already showing those unmistakable signs of wear and tear that mark a truly enjoyable story.
Tomas is husband to Veronique Christensen of Little Elephants , a sweet little blog that has become a fast favorite of mine. Strange that it was the simply-illustrated elephant on her site which lured me in in the first place, but it happened at the same time I was creating my felt elephants. And I’ve always had a soft spot for elephants. Good thing, eh Veronique?!
In any event, I think Veronique and her husband, Tomas, are wonderful and fascinating people, and I was very willing and happy to lend my support!
