I will be discontinuing the Support Entrepreneurs page at Woolgatherings, but it’s not bad news at all. You see, there’s a new site in the works called Root & Sprout. (www.RootandSprout.com)

“Here at Root & Sprout, we believe the connection between parent and child is what’s most important, and it’s a relationship that grows through mutual love and respect. With gentle, hands-on parenting, we can give our children the necessary roots to help them sprout.

Moms and dads can visit Root & Sprout for practical information, stories, and advice about being a parent and raising kids. Parents will also find helpful tips, family-friendly activities, and more . . . all submitted by people who support the Root & Sprout way of life.”

There are a few ways in which to advertise with Root & Sprout. If you are a small business owner or entrepreneur whose site and product appeals to the Root & Sprout parent or kid, consider our affordable alternatives to pricey advertising fees. *You do NOT need to be a parent to advertise with Root & Sprout.*

  • Little Ideas: My name is Gloria, and I have been sewing for years. When my girls were little, I made their clothes, baby doll clothes and Barbie clothes, too. My mother taught me how to knit; my grandma taught me how to crochet. Cross stitching and embroidery are my favorite things to do, but now I can do them on my embroidery machine. I have just opened an Etsy shop and hope that you will take a peek at my handy work.
  • Karen’s Monsters: Karen Goetsch began Karen’s Monsters in order to offer toys full of creativity and sparks of imagination. Each monster is handmade, unique and kid safe. Based in Brooklyn, the monsters are excited about traveling to far off locations, like Indiana or Antarctica. Visit the blog, too!
  • La Bella Designs: I am an independent jewelry artist from Alpharetta, Georgia. My jewelry is made from natural gemstones and precious metals. My goal is to create jewelry that is beautiful, wearable and unique. All designs are limited or one of a kind. I emphasize quality materials and fine craftsmanship so your jewelry will last for many decades!
  • Krafted Keepsakes: We are Tracey and Judi, two friends and moms from a small town in New England, who love to scrapbook. One of us has two young sons, and one has two adult daughters and four grandchildren, but we’re not telling who’s who! Prior to starting our crafting business, we both worked in corporate environments (that’s how we met) for many years, and this is just so much more fun and rewarding! Krafted Keepsakes began as a Custom Scrapbook Design venture, working one-on-one with clients to create scrapbooks tailored to their needs. But at some point, we looked around and realized that we’d amassed quite an impressive collection of scraps and supplies that were screaming out to be used in a creative way. So now, in addition to scrapbooks, we also create anything and everything we can think of using the same materials and supplies. (We have to admit we don’t limit ourselves to using just scraps, but the collection has started to shrink a bit!) Our products now include unique picture frames, wall hangings, greeting cards and note cards in varying sizes, pre-designed scrapbooks, altered clocks, clipboards, and who knows what else we may come up with! Our studio is a dining room table in one of our homes, and we have the best time together creating these items. Also on etsy.
  • Contemorary Embroidery: Using traditional techniques of patchwork, appliqué and hand embroidery, I create ‘Wrapping Cloths’ as a metaphor for my desire to shelter and protect my children and the emotional relationship we share. Contained within these works are pockets of private space, formed through folding, pleating and the manipulation of fabric. I am also influenced by my female predecessors who utilized cloth as a tool of comfort, shelter and domesticity. Surface pattern in the form of hand embroidery and appliqué originates in patterns found on vintage domestic cloth and lace. By mirroring labour intensive, laborious hand embroidery methods used by women throughout time, I wish these cloths to serve as a tribute. In addition to these works I have smaller items for sale on etsy. My blog is a means for me to discuss and give exposure to my cloths and also the items I create for etsy.
  • Simple: Handmade objects for baby, mommy & home. Looking for that special gift for a new baby, mommy-to-be, or just for yourself? Products currently featured include: keepsake boxes, piggy banks, room accessories and décor. Some of my designs have a vintage-style, while others have a more modern feeling. I’m inspired by all types of art, vintage findings, and a lifetime of collecting.
